Hello everybody!
It feels like a good day today. I slept in, all my school work is done until next September and my projects are currently at the printers. Life is good right now. So why not share some artwork with the rest of the Internet community. A little while ago I illustrated and designed the second full length album of Canadian singer/song writer Shy-Anne Hovorka. Shy-Anne sought me out after seeing the design and illustration initiative put forward for Jean-Paul De Roover‘s album Windows and Doors. I was incredibly excited to work with another musician, especially one as talented as Shy-Anne.
The message she wanted to convey through her album artwork was the significance of the Native Canadian medicine wheel, and how it represents the four elements; earth, water, fire and air. Each illustration is based on one of these elements. It felt great to sit down and paint a series of illustrations. I experimented with textures and digital colouring after the paintings were completed. Usually I over-saturate my digital work with layers and layers of paint and textures. I’m quite resolved with the ratio of traditional to digital rendering within each piece. And for the record, I used the gray-scale tonal under-painting for each painting. I don’t usually do this; however, I thought experimenting with my painting process would provide interesting results. The album is currently in production and will be available to the public very soon. For now go check out Shy-Anne’s myspace page. I will provide more updates after the CD is manufactured and packaged. I’ll see you cats later.
